Adeje strengthens coastal safety with acquisition of self-inflating lifebuoys

The measure aims to improve emergency response in hard-to-access areas along the coast

Adeje Town Hall, through the Department of Tourism and Beaches together with the Department of Security and Emergencies, under councillors Patricia Paulsen Fölling and Mercedes Vargas Delgado respectively, has delivered 50 “ONEUPS PRO” rescue devices, self-inflating lifebuoys with lifelines and reflective elements.

Both councillors explained that “these measures are essential to continue consolidating a safer coastline for residents and visitors.” The devices are now in the hands of the Local Police, Civil Protection and Rescue, Adeje Volunteer Firefighters, and the lifeguard service.

The ONEUP PRO is a portable, compact, and lightweight lifebuoy that activates automatically when it comes into contact with water. Its design allows anyone to throw it to a person in distress, inflating in seconds and providing immediate buoyancy. It is reusable by replacing the CO2 cartridge and features reflective elements and a securing rope, which facilitates rescue and visual location. This technology is especially useful in aquatic areas without permanent supervision and allows municipal personnel or present members of the public to multiply their response capacity.

This provision will enhance safety and immediate response to any incident in any coastal area of the municipality. The devices meet the technical requirements of lightness, portability, compactness, and ease of use, making them effective tools for rescue, security, environmental, and beach teams patrolling the area.

This action reflects the municipal commitment to ensuring safety on beaches and bathing areas in compliance with the Coastal Law and current civil protection regulations. Furthermore, the acquisition forms part of the drowning prevention strategy and strengthens the municipality’s operational capacity in aquatic emergencies.
