Adeje will experience a weekend of tradition and shared memory, with two events that highlight the richness of Canarian heritage and the Town Hall’s commitment to preserving and promoting local customs. On Saturday, 8 November, Plaza de San Sebastián will host the ninth edition of the Festival Imoque, under the theme “Identity”, organised by the Imoque Cultural Association; and on Sunday, 9 November, Plaza del Emigrante will be the setting for the theatrical route “Pasos de Vida y Muerte” (“Steps of Life and Death”), an initiative led by the Adeje Municipal School of Folklore Group. Both activities are supported by Adeje Town Hall.

On Saturday from 12 noon, Plaza de San Sebastián in La Caleta will become a meeting point for crafts, writing, gastronomy, music and tradition, part of the Festival Imoque “Identity”, along with an exhibition and sale of Canarian literature by the bookshop Todo Hobby La Clave. Throughout the day, the writer Clara Isabel Rufino Baquero, author of Dímelo en Canario 2, and the writer Alfredo López Pérez “Isoko”, author of Amaro Pargo, Fe, Amor y Raíces, will be signing copies of their books and taking part in literary presentations.

The public will also be able to enjoy workshops on salto del pastor (shepherd’s leap), silbo gomero (Gomeran whistling language) and juego del palo (stick play), as well as activities to promote Canarian products such as gofio, honey, wine and cheese, led by Volcanic Xperience and GMR Canarias. During the day, there will also be the Imoque Envite Tournament, the opening of the traditional ventorrillo (food stall) and a gastronomic fair with local tastings.

Music and folklore will play a central role in the programme, with performances by the children’s group Parranda del CEIP Isaac de Vega from Granadilla de Abona, and a workshop on drum music from La Gomera led by Luis Martínez. The day will conclude at 8 pm with the Folklore Festival, featuring performances by the El Zascandil Folklore Group from Palencia (Castilla y León), the Imoque Cultural Association, and a special performance by artist Conrado Díaz, rounding off a day that celebrates Canarian roots and cultural exchange between communities.

On Sunday, 9 November, the Adeje Municipal School of Folklore will present a new edition of the theatrical route “Pasos de Vida y Muerte” (“Steps of Life and Death”), a performance commemorating All Souls’ Day, which will take place at 7.30 pm in Plaza del Emigrante (behind the main Town Hall building).

“Pasos de Vida y Muerte” transforms public space into a living stage, where the streets become a route of dramatized scenes featuring traditional music, song, dance and stories that recall Adeje in times past. The performance aims to honour collective memory, recover rituals and customs linked to life and death, and build bridges between generations, keeping alive the connection with the town’s intangible heritage.

More than just a performance, it is a participatory and emotional experience where the community sees itself in its traditions, celebrates local identity and reaffirms the value of folklore as a living expression of Canarian culture.
