Adeje Town Hall's Department of Equality and Diversity, headed by councillor José Antonio López Delgado, has organised two events to mark Pride Month. The first will take place this coming Monday, 9 June, in the Pedro Zerolo Memorial Square, paying tribute to the Canary Islands-born lawyer, activist and politician who played a key role in advancing LGTBIQ+ rights in Spain. The second will be on Friday 27 June, under the title ‘Orgullo del Sur, Orgullo de familias’ (Pride of the South, Pride of Families), a day of recognition, workshops, performances and activities in a format open to all ages.
Monday’s event, scheduled for 7pm, will include the reading of a manifesto and a musical performance by Ida Susal, in the Adeje square named in memory of Pedro Zerolo, aiming to honour the activist’s legacy.
The councillor explained, “This is about recognising, remembering, and sharing the legacy of a Canarian who marked a turning point in reclaiming rights for the community. Pride is not just an event, it is a right in motion that needs to be visible, shared, and lived in public. Pedro Zerolo remains an ethical and political reference point.”
The programme will continue on Friday 27 June, also in the Pedro Zerolo Square, with the event ‘Orgullo del Sur, Orgullo de familias’. It serves as the annual closing event for the various services and activities developed as part of the Adeje Diversa project (a psychosocial support service for LGTBI+ people and their families), run by the Department of Equality and Diversity and delivered by the Rayuela Association.
The afternoon’s programme will begin at 4pm with a performance by the K’NADUM comparsa group and a series of workshops for children and young people, including ceramics, creative painting, bracelet-making, origami, and hama beads, along with parallel activities such as body painting, face painting, an exhibition of work produced by schools in the municipality as part of the Espacios Arcoiris (Rainbow Spaces) project, and a stand with specialised literature from the Todo Hobby La Clave bookshop.
From 7pm onwards, there will be a rainbow storytelling session by Charlie Marrero, a performance by Huma Fuman titled ‘Las peculiares lecciones de la señorita Huma’ (The Peculiar Lessons of Miss Huma), the award ceremony for the quick painting competition, and a special recognition for LGTBIQ+ visibility, as well as the reading of the institutional manifesto.
The event will be hosted by Isósceles de Triangals, who will bring their wit and humour to this event which is expected to become a regular fixture on Adeje’s annual calendar.
