Adeje's youth department under councillor Carmen Lucía Rodríguez del Toro has launched EspacioJovenCast, a new podcast. The initiative aims to bring content of particular interest to young people through a dynamic and participatory format, featuring young people from the borough alongside expert contributors. The podcast, in Spanish, is available to watch and listen to on the YouTube channel @AdejeEspacioJoven, and is also shared across Adeje Town Hall’s digital platforms.
The councillor explained that “this format allows us to connect with young people in a different way – using their language, addressing their questions, and at their pace. It’s a project created with them and for them, with the intention that they can listen, reflect, and see themselves represented.”
The first episode is entitled ‘Una lloradita y a seguir’ (Have a quick cry and carry on) and focuses on mental health. The episode looks at common ideas around anxiety, depression, and the stigma that still surrounds psychological therapy. The guests in this edition are psychologist Alicia Méndez González, who holds master’s degrees in General Health Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology, and Aarón Pérez Pérez, who is an expert in Clinical and Health Psychology.
Topics covered include negative emotions, emotional overload, the link between willpower and mental disorders, and the belief that therapy is only for the weak! The episode also explores the impact of negative thinking and some of the most common issues currently affecting young people.
The second episode is already in production and will focus on questions about paranormal phenomena, submitted by young people from the borough. This episode will be hosted by student Gonzalo de León Radován, with guest speaker José Gregorio González, a writer and science communicator.
