The Tenerife Fire Prevention, Rescue and Extinction Consortium held a new session of its Fire Prevention Week 2025 this Monday, 19 May, at the Costa Adeje Centre for Tourism Development (CDTCA). The event was split into two parts: a morning session for schoolchildren and a second, open to the general public, from 4pm.
More than 200 pupils took part in various activities, including demonstrations on the use of fire extinguishers, simulated household fires, informative talks and specialist presentations.
The Consortium's president, Iván Martín, explained: “These sessions aim to give the general population a set of basic tools to help them prevent risks and avoid actions that might endanger their safety. We're confident that initiatives like this help instil fundamental practices so that people know how to respond to an emergency while waiting for emergency services to arrive.”
Adeje security councillor Mercedes Vargas, added: “These kinds of events are a great way to emphasise the importance of prevention in an emergency situation, especially so children can become key educators in their own environments.”
The sessions — which will continue this Wednesday, 21 May, in Granadilla de Abona — also included participation from Local Police officers, Civil Protection volunteers and the Red Cross. The initiative is supported by Tenerife Cabildo, Fundación MAPFRE, and the Professional Association of Firefighting Technicians (APTB).
