The new solar-powered sludge drying plant at the Adeje-Arona Waste water Treatment Plant (EDAR) is now in operation, offering a significant step forward in waste water management. This infrastructure will enable the treatment of 60% of the sludge generated in Tenerife.
The project represents an investment of €5.2 million, funded by the Tenerife Cabildo and the regional government. During the official visit to the plant on Thursday 8 May, a number of authorities were present, including the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the regional minister for Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, Manuel Miranda, and Adeje councillor for Town Planning and Land Use, Manuel Luis Méndez Martín.
The works involved a number of key technical upgrades to ensure the system functions properly. These included adapting the general low-voltage (LV) power distribution panel to meet the new solar drying system’s requirements, and extending the power supply line to the sludge treatment Motor Control Centre (MCC).
Additional components were installed in the MCC, essential for the management and protection of electric motors, allowing for full integration of the solar drying system. An automated system was also implemented to monitor and manage the solar drying process efficiently. New electrical panels – both control and lighting – were installed, specifically designed for this facility.
The works also included the installation of all necessary conduits and cabling for power and control lines, ensuring proper connectivity and electrical distribution. Lastly, a comprehensive lighting system was installed across all areas related to the solar drying process.
