To mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Adeje Town Hall, together with the Adeje Equality Council, has organised a series of events to raise awareness among the public about the importance of eradicating gender-based violence.
This year's theme, ‘She broke her silence, the world broke into applause’ , which was also the winning short story in last year's short story competition on the theme, aims to engage all generations, from children to adults, in this cause.
Equality councillor José Antonio López Delgado, said, “Through these activities, Adeje Town Hall reaffirms its commitment to equality and the fight against violence towards women, promoting a space for reflection and action for all residents of the municipality.” The institutional motion against violence towards women was unanimously approved at the last plenary session of the council held in October.
According to the official figures, gender-based violence has claimed the lives of 39 women so far in 2024, leaving 29 children under 18 orphaned. From 2003 to 2024, a total of 1,283 women have been killed due to gender-based violence. For this reason, Adeje Town Hall invites residents to participate in the various actions that will take place.
