The Summer University of Adeje has a range of workshops and activities along with its usual courses. It’s running from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th July 2024. There is even a free bus service, depending on where you live, check out the schedule and route at
adeje.es/uva/transporte. There's also a free childcare service for kids aged 6 to 13, available from 9:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 20:00. You’ll need to pre-register at

Workshops
(All events are in Spanish)
The workshops kick off on Monday 22nd July, from 16:00 to 20:00, with ‘How to Reproduce Fruit Trees’, led by Antonio Cesar Perdomo Molina. You’ll learn about common practices in fruit tree reproduction, especially grafting, why it’s done, and get hands-on with different types of grafting.
On the 22nd and 23rd, from 16:00 to 20:00, there’s a Radio and Video Podcasts workshop, run by journalist Enrique Hernández and organised by the Association of Journalists of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. You’ll get the lowdown on making professional radio and video podcasts, from basics to promoting and distributing your content.
On Tuesday 23rd July, from 09:00 to 13:00, there’s a visit to the Aloe Vera Farm in Güímar, led by Rafael Lesmes. You’ll learn about the plant’s history, care, harvesting, and final product, and how to mix tourism with agriculture.
That same day, from 16:00 to 20:00, you can join ‘Painting a Picture of Flavours: Eating and Drinking in Ancient Rome’, led by José Antonio González Marrero. You’ll explore ancient Roman cooking techniques and their food technology.
On Wednesday 24th July, from 16:00 to 20:00, there’s ‘Communication for Daily Life’, led by Luis Javier Capote Pérez. It’ll help you improve your communication skills, learn the art of speaking, and tackle stage fright.
On Thursday 25th July, from 09:00 to 13:00, it’s ‘Resources and Good Practices for Physical and Sports Education’, led by Daniel Arriscado Alsina. It’s all about sharing resources and practices for physical education that you can use in schools and workplaces, plus networking with like-minded professionals.
On Friday 26th July, from 09:00 to 13:00, you can enjoy ‘Hiking through the Barranco del Infierno, a True Botanical Treasure’, led by Jonay Jesús Cubas Díaz. You’ll learn about the local flora and conservation issues of the island’s protected natural areas.
Lastly, there’s a session on ‘The Process of Organ Donation and Transplantation from Society to Clinic’, led by Pedro Ramón Gutiérrez Hernández, with Antonio Ríos Zambudio from the University of Murcia. It includes an interactive workshop on doctoral theses in collaboration with the International Donor Collaborative Project.
Extra Activities
The extra activities kick off on Monday 22nd at 19:00 with ‘ULL Dialogues’, featuring young talents from different fields. Later, at 21:00, there’s a concert by ‘Tío Franklin’ on Calle Grande.
On Tuesday 23rd, there will a screening of ‘Campeonex 2’ at 18:00, followed by a talk from Jesús Vidal at 20:00. There’s also a concert by ‘Vinomios Folk’ at 21:00 on Calle Grande.
Wednesday 24th, from 16:00 to 20:00, there’s ‘Men Also Weave: Rescuing the Rosette in Southern Tenerife’, showcasing local crafts. At 19:00, Alex Roca and Mari Carmen Maza will give a talk on overcoming barriers, followed by a concert by ‘Quimbao La Nuit’ at 21:00 on Calle Grande.
Thursday 25th, at 19:00, is the first UVA Awards Gala, celebrating key figures in the university’s history. At 21:00, Canarian singer Moisés González will perform on Calle Grande.
Friday 26th, at 18:00, there’s a closing event with journalists Jesús Cintora, Lourdes Santana Navarro, and Roberto González Moreno, ending with a concert by ‘Troveros de Asieta’ at 21:00 in the Adeje Auditorium.
All week, you can check out various exhibitions: ‘From the Real to the Marvellous’ by Conrado Díaz Ruíz, ‘Bold’ by the Carrera for Life Foundation, and a retrospective of the Tenerife Fashion Young Designers Contest.
Throughout the week, different radio stations will broadcast live from Adeje, with special content from the municipal radio station Radio Sur Adeje FM 107.9.
