This morning, Wednesday February 1st, Adeje’s department of youth, under Councillor Carmen Lucía Rodríguez del Toro, presented the IX edition of the ‘Recréate’ programme, an initiative with a variety of activities, directed specifically at younger people and groups in the community, secondary school students and those who are studying for their Bachillerato.

Recréate (‘Re-imagine yourself’) started in 2014 and has worked along three basic axis – youth participation, mentors for young people, grants for talented young people from the borough.

Participation has concentrated on encouraging young people who are studying in the borough’s public secondary schools to explore talents, with activities and relevant information for areas outside and beyond school work they might wish to explore.

The second axis, mentoring for young people, is about encouraging exchange of ideas, creating, co-operating, enjoying positive experiences and promoting values which underling positive personal development among Adeje’s younger citizens.  Sessions are in the youth centre and for this edition the themes will be looking at what happens when students finish their studies, with different young people talking about their personal experiences on finishing formal studies.  The section also examines experiences of bullying and how to deal with it. The last workshop will look at improving employment potential, offering strategies and looking for jobs too.

The third axis looks at and rewards those who have been awarded the highest grades in 4th year of their second level studies, and 2 year of the Bachillerato, the objective being to encourage them to continue in education, value their achievement and consistency,
