The jury in the short story competition on the issue of domestic and gender violence, organised annually by the Adeje council’s department of equality, have picked the winners.  The student body also took part in an art competition on the same theme.  The story theme was expanded to include the services available, how victims can access help and seek to escape the cycle of violence.

The jury said they were looking for the standard of writing, originality, the use of language, rhetoric, and originality.  They were also happy to include current styles in use of language and local context used in storytelling, given the writers and the age of the people in their stories.

“We have noticed a high level of understanding of the concept of domestic and gender violence among our young people, among the students who took part, in this case 4th year in our secondary schools, so 15 and 16 year olds”, commented the jury.
