Adeje joins in marking World Aids Day on December 1st

Adeje’s Department of health has launched a solidarity campaign

This December 1st Adeje council will be joining many others in marking World Aids Day, with a number of different activities in the borough, both to help those with AIDS and in the evolution of sexual health programmes. 
 
Among the activities planned is the illumination of the front of the Town Hall and the Plaza España in red, a symbolic act, one of solidarity and visibility. A banner will also be hung on the Town Hall façade.  
 
The Department of health are also promoting a campaign which states, “Para Adeje todos los días son 1 de diciembre” (in Adeje every day is World Aids Day), which reinforces the council’s commitment to ensuring campaigns to assist those with AIDS, to work on prevention and sexual health promotion, and also encouraging everyone who is sexually active to have a sexual health check at least once a year. 
 
According to Adeje health councillor, Amada Trujillo Bencomo, “Adeje, in conjunction with the Asociación Rayuela, have the INFOSEX ADEJE Project, which, among other things, offers free, rapid and anonymous tests for HIV, syphilis and Hepatitis C.  This project is underwritten by the regional government.” She added that the programme was co-ordinated by the regional department of public health and offered testing in non-clinical settings. Finally, and continuing the campaign to eradicate discrimination suffered by those living with HIV Adeje council is staging the theatrical production of COMIÉNDOTE A BESOS in the Adeje School of Music and Dance on December 1st at 8pm, tickets €8.
