12 july 2022
Adeje council’s department of youth, overseen by councillor Carmen Lucía Rodriguez del Toro, awarded prizes to the ten top academic students in the borough, under the ‘Jóvenes Talento 2022’ initiative.  The awards are in recognition of their dedication to their studies, valuing excellence, commitment, and academic achievements and hopefully will encourage them and others to continue their studies into third level.

The Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, who was present at the award event, underlined that “these students are winning these awards not just for their work but above all for their dedication.  Congratulations to you all and to your families for all the years of work”, he said.

The awards are given to students who have excelled in the 4th year of secondary school and those who have just completed the two year Bachillerato course.  “This is in recognition of endeavour and values the academic results achieved and stresses how education can be a tool for improvement in society”, commented the councillor.

The prizes are also to motivate students to continue their studies having completed the basic and obligatory courses. The ten students studied in the borough’s two public secondary schools and each was awarded €500.

The 4th year students are, from IES Galeón, Angélica Mº Afonso Díaz, Malak El Ghaliti Akoudad and Zdravkov Kolev Myankov, and from IES Adeje, Claudia Salazar León y Gabriela Rivero Siverio.

The winners at Bachillerato level were Yuhui Ni Xia, who is receiving an award for academic excellence for the second time in Adeje and has also been named by the University of La Laguna as one of the top 30 students to apply to the university. Also recognised for their academic excellence were Mario Compte Socas, Ámbar Aizi Bascones Carrodeguas, Carmen Delgado Quintero y Paula Fuentes Ruiz.

The importance of endeavour

The council are keen to stress that as well as academic excellence they are rewarding students for their personal development, creative learning, personal initiative and encouraging a spirit of entrepreneurship.  They are keen to acknowledge the importance of good learning habits, working methods, scientific, technical, historic and artistic talents as well as the importance of physical health and sporting endeavours.

The department also emphasise the importance among students of rights and fundamental liberties, encouraging students to always live with tolerance, non-discrimination and work for a democratic society that respects social harmony at all levels.
