Adeje’s departments of community welfare and equality, overseen by councillors Mercedes Vargas Delgado and Juan Desiderio Afonso Ruiz, respectively, have organised a series of events this Friday, May 13th, for professionals and families, to celebrate International Families Day. The theme this year will focus on co-parenting for separated families, and is being co-organised with the Canarian association for family intervention and mediation. The day is designed to be a space where people can come together and talk, debate, and discuss the many realities facing families today.
The initiative is also supported by the national pact against domestic violence and backed by an inter-departmental commission with the participation of every councillor in the borough.
The day will be divided into two parts. The morning (from 9.30 to 1pm) will be dedicated to professionals, with experts in various relevant fields, social, infant care, equality, etc. Among those leading this section are Daura Hernández González, co-coordinator from the family meeting point and Laura Rodríguez Santana, a psychologist specialising in domestic violence.
The afternoon session (from 4.30pm) will be for families, with workshops, face painting, treasure hunts, and workshops and talks on relevant themes such as equality, raising children post-separation and divorce, how to reduce conflicts at home, etc.
The aim of the day is to create a space for building awareness, training, prevention, intervention and meeting points for professionals and families. The day’s events will also work to help people recognise when they need to look for help, and how to reach out, identifying meeting spaces, favouring social participation and creating help networks.
