Safety, sustainability and tourism infrastructure – three key elements during the World Travel Market

The British market is recovering and again picking Tenerife as its main destination

The annual World Travel Market was held this week, November 8th and 9th, with Tenerife taking part both with a delegation present at the event and via online meetings.  This meeting with the British market representatives is hugely relevant for Costa Adeje as one of the destination’s major client bases.

Safety, sustainability and tourism infrastructure were listed as the most important elements for the British tourist. Certainly on current predictions the short term future looks good with excellent booking percentages for this winter and growth in bookings for summer 2022.

“We have high expectations both for this winter and next summer, we believe we are allowed to be optimistic but prudent at the same time, given that Covid-19 will continue to be a reality that we have to learn to live with”, commented Adolfo Alonso Ferrera, councillor for tourism.

Costa Adeje, along with Puerto de la Cruz, Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide, took part in online meetings while representatives from Tenerife Tourism travelled to London.  Important too were meeting regarding increased and improved connectivity with Tenerife and all bodies worked to increase the number of flights to and from the island.

Jet2, Easy Jet and British Airways are the three airlines who have increased connectivity.  For the tourism councillor this is very good news, above all given that 75% of the clients who travel with British Airways stay in 5-star establishments and most of them chose Costa Adeje as their preferred destination.

The councillor also said that we needed to continue to invest in promoting the destination if we wanted to attract new markets as well as maintaining those we held pre-pandemic.
