Up to 200 kilos of fresh seasonal produce grown in the ‘Parque Central’ in the middle of Adeje, has been added to the weekly food donations to those individuals and families in need in the borough. The fresh produce has been added to the dry non-perishable goods available through the local food bank, distributed weekly by Adeje social services. Currently there are 60 baskets prepared for distribution a week.
The park has five different large tracts of land, and in April of this year the council planted one zone with up to 50 varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs. The produce now being distributed and grown locally includes carrots, green beans, parsley, spinach, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli, lettuces, peppers, onions and garlic, tomatoes, basil, pumpkin as well as strawberries, citric fruits, papaya and much more.
At the end of October 2021 the Adeje park will be at maximum production levels, with, it is calculated, a monthly production rate of 3.5 tons of fresh produce.
