Adeje council approves the introduction of a guaranteed health stamp

The stamp is the result of a working project in conjunction with the University of La Laguna and the Canarian Foundation for the control of tropical diseases, working to prevent future pandemics

25 june 2021
Today, Friday June 25th, during the monthly plenary session, the Adeje council unanimously approved the issuing of a new health guarantee stamp against Covid-19 and future pandemics. The stamp will be a public recognition that an establishment (hotel, shop, restaurant, business, public or private entity) has and is applying best practises to improve conditions indoors and in publicly accessible spaces in Adeje regarding the prevention of the transmission of Covid-19.

This the result of a detailled project in conjunction with the University of La Laguna and the Canarian Foundation for the control of tropical diseases, working to prevent future pandemics.

With full council approval now granted, the project can move to the next phase, as “we commit to take all measures needed to offset the impact of this pandemic on our population and prevent and be ready to meet the challenges of any new similar situations that might arise.  As well, we are talking about accepting the lessons that this pandemic has taught us, to prepare us for the future, so that our economic and social wellbeing will be stronger”, commented the mayor.

The creation of the this stamp, to be known as the Accredited Healthy Destination stamp, will also help local residents and visitors have trusted information about the hygienic and sanitation measures being taken by authorities, businesses and individuals in areas that the public will and may visit.  It will also reinforce a confidence that the right actions are being taken by different operators who are in business in the borough, given the recognised bodies behind the granting of this stamp of safety.

Covid-19 has made us aware of the fragility of our public health systems, our economies and our society in its capacity to confront the risks posed by global threats. What we have actually seen is that no-one was prepared and the cost in human, social and economic terms has been devastating,

Covid-19 has changed how we interact with each other – possibly for the long term. For a tourism borough such as Adeje the changes it has wrought have to be recognised and taken on board, and we must take measures now that generate confidence and help in the reactivation of our economy.

How it will work

Businesses and individuals interested in acquiring this stamp will have to present a petition online to the Adeje council, with details soon to be posted on the council webpage. They will also have to supply detailed information, fill in a questionnaire, and provide relevant data.   Among some of the requirements will be evidence that measures are in place regarding prevention of contagion, hygiene and sanitation.  Those employed in the business will have to undertake some form of training in relation to hygienic operations and good practise regarding infections and viral transmission.  They will also have to agree to some monitoring and/or follow-up.

There will be a Silver and a Gold stamp granted by a body established to carry our evaluations, and the stamp will be valid for a year, which can be extended in line with regulations.  Adeje council, the University of La Laguna’s department of public health, and the   Canarian Foundation for the control of tropical diseases will be the overall controlling body.
