The EDAR, the water purification plant in Adeje/Arona, has doubled its output – the Cabildo president Pedro Martón and the regional Ecological Transition/Climate change minister José Antonio Valbuena visited the plant this morning, with Adeje’s mayor Jose Miguel Rodriguez Fraga. The plant can now treat 40,000m3 daily, more than double the previous rate.
Also joining the visiting party this morning were the island councillor for sustainable development Javier Rodríguez Medina and the mayor of San Miguel Arturo González, and Jorge Marichal, president of the Ashotel association.
Pedro Martín thanked the regional government for the investment in what is hugely important for this part of the island, for the local population, for the environment, and for agriculture in the area. Jose Antonio Valbuena said the installation was a contributory factor to the local economy and recognised the important of water as a vital resource.
The Adeje mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, said water has always been a source of concern for the south of the island, procuring it and treating it when used. “As a tourist destination we need environmental policies that are forwarding looking….that guarantee use of water as a fundamental part of our society.”
