The Adeje daytime centre for senior citizens reopened on July 6th, and they are launching a special programme of summer activities

8 july 2020
The new councillor for senior citizens, Carmen Lucía Rodríguez de Toro, welcomed the reopening of the day centre, on Monday July 6th, with the standard opening times, 9am to 1pm and 3pm to 7pm on weekdays.

“Both the day centre and all the activities we have planned for the summer will, of course, include all the necessary health and safety measures as outlined by the ministry for health and the regional department. What is important is the health of everyone involved, both here and during activities scheduled for this year’s summer programme”, she commented.

The Adeje department have designed a summer programme focusing on physical activity and fun.  There are three different initiatives – ‘Ponte las cholas’ (put on your flip-flops), ‘gimnasia de mantenimiento’ (stay in shape workouts) and ‘paseos por el litoral’ (walks along the coast line).

‘Ponte las cholas’ will be taking place on the beach, with outdoor exercise, walks and swimming.  The activity will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and, responding to the request from members of the centre, there will be morning and afternoon sessions, from 10am to 12 noon and from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.

‘Ginmasia de mantenamiento’ is a programme of exercises designed to recover some elasticity in the muscles and help in movement, which may have been affected by the period of confinement.  Classes will be adapted to suit those attending, and the sessions take place in the small square, Plaza Hermano Pedro, just in front of the centre, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9.30am to 10.20am and from 10.30am to 11.20am.

‘Paseos por el litoral’ will take place on Fridays with strolls along the coastal avenues and paths, at a moderate pace.

For more information and to sign up for the centre and the activities call 922 756229.  All activities will have limited participation and of course are dependent on the health situation at the time and date of each activity.  All events and activities will take place in Spanish.
