At the most recent council meeting Adeje Town Hall unanimously approved a collaborative agreement with Tenerife Cabildo to carry out upgrade works at the Barranco de Las Torres Industrial Estate. This inter-administrative agreement establishes the framework for cooperation between the two institutions to modernise one of the municipality’s main industrial areas.
The Councillor for Works, Services and Good Governance, Epifanio Díaz Hernández, said that this agreement “represents an important step in continuing to improve the infrastructure of the Barranco de Las Torres Industrial Estate and to adapt it to the real needs of businesses and the people who work in this area on a daily basis”. In this regard, he highlighted that the planned upgrades “will improve accessibility, safety and efficiency, while renewing basic networks that had already reached the end of their use”, stressing that “the unanimous approval at the council meeting reflects the existing consensus on the strategic importance of this industrial estate for economic activity and employment in Adeje”.
The purpose of the agreement is to improve the urban, functional and safety conditions of the industrial estate, acting on key elements such as pedestrian accessibility, roadways, basic networks and public lighting. The works have a total budget of more than €1.5 million, jointly financed by Tenerife Cabildo and Adeje Town Hall, and will be carried out within a maximum period of two years from the formal signing of the agreement. Adeje Town Hall’s contribution amounts to €848,137, while Tenerife Cabildo will contribute €700,000.
Included in the works are the reorganisation of tree pits and the repair of pavements and road surfaces, with the aim of facilitating movement and adapting the space to current accessibility standards. The project also includes the installation of an irrigation network linked to the new tree pits and the selection of suitable plant species, with non-surface roots and low water requirements, contributing to more efficient maintenance of the area. These actions will help to improve the urban image of the industrial estate and promote a more orderly and functional environment for business activity.
In terms of safety, the agreement includes the replacement and increase in the number of hydrants, strengthening the capacity to respond to possible fires. In addition, a partial renewal of the water supply network will be carried out, which is currently affected by the deterioration of certain sections that cause leaks and frequent breakages, thus ensuring a more reliable and efficient service.
Another key element of the project is the improvement of energy efficiency through the renewal of public lighting. The current streetlights will be replaced with state-of-the-art LED installations, reducing electricity consumption and associated emissions, while also improving the quality of lighting throughout the industrial estate.
