Sonnibel Mendoza takes over from Marguerite Bou Jaude after a year of intense activity

Adeje’s Equality Council has chosen Sonnibel Mendoza as its new spokesperson for 2026. The change follows the work carried by Marguerite Bou Jaude, who has coordinated the Council’s activity over the past year. The handover comes at a time of consolidation for the body, which continues to serve as a space for meeting, advice, proposals and monitoring of municipal equality policies, with the active participation of the municipality’s associative and social fabric.

The president of the Equality Council and councillor for Equality and Diversity at Adeje Town Hall, José Antonio López Delgado, thanked “all the people and organisations that form part of the Council for the constant, rigorous and entirely selfless work they do, contributing time, knowledge and commitment from very diverse backgrounds”. He made particular reference to those who have taken on the role of spokesperson, noting that “both Marguerite, for the effort carried out during 2025, and Sonnibel, who is now beginning this new stage, have been and continue to be key figures in giving cohesion to the Council, channelling proposals and keeping alive a space for participation that is essential in Adeje”.

Over the past year, under Marguerite Bou Jaude, the Equality Council has maintained a sustained working agenda, with regular meetings at which actions linked to key dates were planned and assessed, including 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The Council promoted awareness-raising proposals, cultural activities, training workshops and actions in public spaces, always from a participatory perspective and open to the diversity of viewpoints present in the municipality.

Alongside the change in personnel, the Adeje Equality Council has approved a modification of its regulations, with the aim of adapting its operation to the experience gained in recent years and providing greater clarity in internal procedures. The new text updates aspects related to the organisation of sessions, the incorporation of new entities and the definition of participation mechanisms, strengthening the Council’s role as a consultative and propositional body in matters of equality. This change will allow the Council to be more agile in responding to matters, consistent with the social reality of the municipality, while preserving its plural and representative character.

The 2025 minutes of the Council also reflect its diverse nature, with representatives from cultural, sporting, social and educational associations, as well as entities working in areas such as health, youth and care for older people. The meetings held throughout the year addressed issues including the planning of commemorative activities, the development of shared messages, coordination with other groups and the need to continue advancing training and awareness-raising actions aimed at different sectors of the population.

With the appointment of Sonnibel Mendoza as the new spokesperson and the entry into force of the updated regulations, the Adeje Equality Council enters a new phase that ensures continuity of the work carried out to date, while strengthening the foundations for more structured and effective participation. Adeje Town Hall thus reaffirms its commitment to this body as a stable space for dialogue and collaboration, from which to continue promoting initiatives that help advance real and effective equality in the municipality.
