Adeje Town Hall secures a €10 million grant to strengthen municipal cohesion

The European grant will enable the development of a comprehensive plan for regeneration, social cohesion and urban modernisation in the municipality

Adeje Town Hall, through its Office of Strategic Affairs, has secured a €10 million grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the development of the Adeje EDIL Plan, a medium- and long-term intervention strategy aimed at comprehensively improving the functioning, quality and liveability of the municipality’s urban centre. This European funding, which includes municipal co-financing, forms part of the European Union’s sustainable urban development policies and will make it possible to carry out a coordinated set of actions with a direct impact on public space, services, economic activity and social cohesion.

The Mayor of Adeje described the awarding of the grant as “very good news for the municipality and for the Town Hall”, highlighting that the approval of the ERDF funding represents European backing for a comprehensive strategic plan “designed in detail and with great care to stitch together and bring cohesion to the town of Adeje”. He noted that the €10 million contribution will make it possible to drive actions focused on integrated development, centred on improving the urban environment and creating conditions that encourage healthier coexistence and a higher quality of life for the public.

The Mayor explained that the EDIL Plan is structured as a strategic urban development instrument, adding that “it is a strategy that complements other plans already under way, which we will begin to implement in the coming months following official notification of this grant”.

The EDIL Plan has been conceived as a cross-cutting tool that addresses urban challenges jointly from a social, environmental, economic and territorial perspective. Through this strategy, Adeje has planned interventions aimed at the regeneration of urban spaces, improvements in accessibility and mobility, energy efficiency, the digitalisation of public services and the strengthening of social inclusion, with particular attention to neighbourhoods with the greatest needs for intervention.

The proposal submitted by the Town Hall is structured around several integrated projects that allow action to be taken simultaneously on the physical environment and on the daily lives of the population. Among the objectives of the plan are the creation and improvement of public spaces for community interaction, the revitalisation of established residential areas, the promotion of new urban centres and the strengthening of the economic and social fabric of the town centre, encouraging a more balanced and sustainable use of the territory.

The Adeje EDIL Plan also incorporates environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation criteria, promoting nature-based solutions, improvements in the energy efficiency of public facilities and a reduction in the environmental impact of urban infrastructure. These actions are aligned with the Spanish Urban Agenda and with European objectives for territorial cohesion, ecological transition and urban resilience.

With the securing of this ERDF grant, Adeje consolidates a clear roadmap for the transformation of its town centre, reinforcing a development model that prioritises quality of life, equitable access to services and the modernisation of public spaces. The Town Hall has planned a phased implementation of the actions, ensuring coordination between municipal departments and the participation of the different stakeholders involved, in order to ensure that the investment has a real and lasting impact on the municipality.
