Adeje joins the national government campaign on responsible pet ownership

The campaign poses as series of questions helping you decide whether you should have a pet or not!

Adeje’s Department of health and quality of life, under councillor Amada Trujillo
Bencomo, is aligning itself with the national campaign on responsibility for pets –
anyone thinking of having a pet should consider 10 things before they decide on
whether it is the right move.

You should ask yourself why you want a pet, and if you do what your ideal pet would
be, then where should you go to find your pet (ideally adopting one), and importantly
what the needs of the animal will be and how you will care for them.

Having considered these matters then you should think about the cost of having a pet -
from micro-chips, providing a healthy diet, vaccinations, vet visits and medication, etc.
Also calculate the amount of time you should be spending with a pet – walks, games,
and the companionship your pet will require. And pets are creatures who will need you
to care (and pay) for their physical and mental health.

Getting to know your pet’s needs is another of the ‘tips’ of the campaign, and last but
not least the campaign stresses that “having an animal in your life is accepting that this
is a COMMITTMENT and you have a RESPONSIBILITY to that pet”.
